DevCam Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-02-16

1) Overview

Your screen data stays o n your Mac b y default.

DevCam is built a s a local-first screen recording app. The core product behavior i s to keep rolling buffer data and exported clips on your device unless you explicitly choose to move files elsewhere. This policy explains what information DevCam handles, how it is used, and what controls you have.

2) Privacy Principles

Local-first, minimal collection, user control.

DevCam follows four core principles: local storage by default, no analytics or ad tracking in the app, explicit user choice for saved clip location, and transparent permission use. If product behavior changes in a way that affects privacy, this policy is updated with a new effective date.

3) What DevCam Collects

No analytics, no ad tracking, no recording uploads.

DevCam does not collect telemetry, analytics identifiers, ad-tracking data, or cloud copies of your screen recordings. The app does not require account creation for core functionality and does not transmit clip content to DevCam servers.

4) Data Stored Locally o n Your Device

DevCam stores only what is needed to record and export clips.

DevCam stores a temporary rolling buffer of segment files to support retroactive export. It also stores clips that you explicitly export to a folder you select. In addition, DevCam stores settings (including bookmark metadata for chosen save locations) and operational logs required for diagnostics and troubleshooting.

Rolling buffer files are automatically rotated and evicted as recording continues. Exported clips remain in your selected folder until you delete or move them. Preference and settings data persist until you remove the app data or reset those settings.

5 ) Permissions DevCam Requests

Permissions are limited to features you use.

DevCam requests Screen Recording permission because screen capture i s the core function of the app. File access is user-selected and scoped to the folder you choose for exports. Accessibility permission is optional and used for enhanced shortcut behavior and related runtime features.

Microphone controls may appear in the Ul, but microphone pipeline behavior may vary by build status.

You can revoke permissions a t any time in macOS System Settings. Revoking required permissions can prevent certain features from functioning until permissions are restored.

6) How DevCam Uses Information

Data is used to run recording, export, and reliability features.

DevCam uses local recording data t o maintain the rolling buffer, assemble exports, and show recording status in the app interface. Settings data is used to remember your chosen preferences and file destinations. Logs are used for reliability and debugging, not for advertising, profiling, or behavioral tracking.

7 ) Data Sharing and Third Parties

DevCam does not sell or broker your recording data.

DevCam does not sell personal data and does not share recording content with advertising networks. I f you choose to upgrade to paid features, purchase and restore flows use Apple's StoreKit services, which are governed by Apple's terms and privacy practices.

Aside from Apple purchase infrastructure (when you initiate those actions), DevCam is designed to operate without third-party data processors for recording content.

8) Data Retention

Retention depends on data type and your choices.

Temporary buffer segments are retained only within the configured rolling duration and automatically replaced over time. Exported clips are retained until you delete them. Settings remain until app preferences are reset or removed. System logs are retained under macOS logging lifecycle behavior.

9) Your Controls and Choices

You control permissions, storage location, and exported files.

You can choose and change your export location, delete exported clips at any time, revoke app permissions in System Settings, and uninstall the app. You can also inspect app runtime logs through macOS tooling for diagnostics and support workflows.

10) Security

Reasonable safeguards, local boundaries, and platform protections.

DevCam relies on macOS security boundaries (including sandbox and entitlement controls, where applicable) and local file access restrictions to limit exposure. N o software can guarantee absolute security, but DevCam is designed to reduce unnecessary data movement and keep sensitive recording data local by default.

11) Children's Privacy

General audience app; no intentional child profiling DevCam is intended for a general audience and does not include child-targeted behavioral profiling, ad tracking, or account-based social features in core functionality.

12) International and Regional Privacy Rights

Rights vary by jurisdiction.

Depending on where you live, local law may provide rights regarding access, deletion, or limits on certain data uses. Because DevCam is local-firs and does not run cloud clip ingestion in core flows, many rights requests can be completed directly by deleting local app data and exported files. 13) Policy Changes

Updates are posted on this page.

If this policy changes, the updated version is posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Material changes should be reviewed before continued use of new versions.
